The Tru-Cape-sponsored Eselfontein MTB Festival, held in Ceres in the Western Cape in October,  is an important fundraiser for local communities. According to organiser Janene Malherbe of the farm Eselfontein in Ceres which grows apples, pears, and cherries for Tru-Cape and has a dairy, the 2022 Eselfontein Festival raised R40, 000 each for its five beneficiaries.

“We have paid the money to the schools and homes on behalf of the Eselfontein MTB. Each of the five organisations received R40 000. Ceres Home for the Aged however, received an additional R12 000 that was specifically collected for their Dementia and Alzheimers department by our local minister,  Rev. Jandre Viljoen and his team,” she says.

“As a result of our efforts and the excellent support we received from our community of riders, we, with Tru-Cape’s and help from other sponsors, have contributed R212 000. Thank you,” Malherbe says adding that now is the time to dust off your mountain bikes and lace up your running shoes, because the adventure-packed Eselfontein MTB Festival 2023 is just around the bend, ready to deliver an experience of a lifetime,” she says.

For those seeking a slightly shorter but equally exhilarating challenge, the 20km MTB Race will provide the perfect opportunity, with a registration fee of R400.

If you’re more inclined towards pounding the trails on foot, the 15km Trail Run is tailor-made for you. Lace up those running shoes and explore the natural beauty of the surroundings for a registration fee of R400.

For the adventurers who seek the thrill of a multi-day challenge, the Three Day Stage Race is a prime opportunity to push your limits and experience the festival to its fullest. With only 300 entries available, this exclusive race promises an unforgettable journey through three days of intense competition and breathtaking landscapes:

Day 1 (Friday, 13th October): Embark on a 30km ride starting at 18:00, as the sun begins its descent.

Day 2 (Saturday, 14th October): The sunrise will usher in a 55km race, starting at 7:00 AM, testing your skills and stamina.
