You Can Now Ride Chappies on Zwift

Four iconic Western Cape routes have landed on the indoor training platform.

South African riders have reason to get excited about Zwift’s latest route additions. Chapman’s Peak Drive is now available on the platform, alongside three other well-known Western Cape passes: Clarence Drive, Bain’s Kloof and Du Toitskloof.

The four routes form part of Zwift’s new real-world video library, introduced with its premium subscription tier, Zwift Plus. Rather than recreating the roads in Zwift’s familiar 3D virtual world, the new Zwift Video feature uses immersive 4K footage of the actual routes.

That means riders can experience the iconic coastal curves, dramatic cliffs and sweeping Atlantic Ocean views of Chappies while still accessing Zwift’s familiar heads-up display, segment information and drafting mechanics.

The Chapman’s Peak route covers 11.4km, with 183m of elevation gain.

The other South African additions offer plenty of variety, too. Clarence Drive covers 16.7km with 186m of climbing, Bain’s Kloof Pass is 22.9km with 404m of elevation gain, while Du Toitskloof Pass comes in at 14.2km and 439m of climbing.

To access these routes, riders need a Zwift Plus subscription or an active free trial. The new tier costs R599.99 a month and also includes Zwift Coach, an adaptive AI-powered coaching feature. The standard Zwift subscription, which provides access to its 3D virtual worlds, remains available separately.

It’s not quite the same as riding these roads in person, but having four iconic local routes available for indoor training is a welcome addition!
