Entries Are Open For Durban’s Iconic Amashova
South Africa’s oldest classic cycling race is celebrating 40 years this year.
2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic Durban road cycling race, Amashova, which takes place on Sunday, 19 July 2026.
To mark this major milestone for South Africa’s oldest classic cycling race, there are a few adjustments being made to this year’s race.
This year, the event offers 106km, 70km and 40km routes, with the legendary 106km Classic still starting at Pietermaritzburg City Hall. However, this year’s 40km ride starts at Westown Square in Shongweni, with all routes finishing at the Masabalala Yengwa Pedestrian Bridge in Durban. The event will once again enjoy full road closure from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

Since its inception in 1986, Amashova has grown into one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most loved sporting events, attracting elite cyclists, social riders, charities, and first-time participants from across the country. The landmark 40th edition promises to celebrate not only the race’s rich legacy, but also the spirit of unity and resilience that has defined the “Shova” for four decades.
Online entries are open now via the official Amashova website and close on 24 June 2026 at 17h00, with late entries available on race day weekend.
