Peter Sagan Wins Tour de France Stage 2
After a crash-filled second day, the World Champion came away with the yellow jersey.
World Champion Peter Sagan won Stage 2 of the Tour de France on Sunday, taking the yellow jersey after edging out Sonny Colbrelli and Arnaud Demare in a reduced sprint finish.
The final dash came after a late crash in the peloton. Overnight leader Fernando Gaviria and a host of others came down in a high-speed tumble just 1.3K from the line, which Sagan and around 15 other riders avoided to set up a frantic finish.
An earlier crash knocked Astana’s Luis León Sánchez out of the race, sending him away in an ambulance with a bloody arm and potentially more serious injuries.
Marcel Kittel of Katusha-Alpecin also had a bad day, getting a puncture in his rear wheel that put him out of contention.
Sagan now leads the Tour by six seconds over Gaviria and 10 seconds over Colbrelli.
