TRAIL FOCUS – Buffelsdrift Trail Park, Pretoria

Just north of Pretoria lies Buffelsdrift, a magical network of bushveld trails that will test as much of your fitness and skills as you want.

Buffelsdrift Trail Park lies 15km north of Pretoria, and provides a safe and secure riding environment within the confines of the Buffelsdrift Nature Conservancy.

Lying on the western boundaries of the Dinokeng area, between the Roodeplaat Dam and the N1 highway, the Buffelsdrift Conservancy has become extremely popular. It’s so close to both Pretoria and Johannesburg – not just for outdoor sports, but also as a superb birding spot, thanks to the Roodeplaat dam, from which an extensive canal system runs, and the Pienaars River, which also runs through the conservancy.

The trail park showcases the natural beauty of the bushveld, via a network of trails that offers something for everyone – from the beginner wanting to see kudu, zebra, impala, warthog or bush pig from the bike, right up to the expert looking for top technical and physical challenges. There are six enduro routes, for the long-travel aficionados, and then a selection of nine regular MTB routes, ranging from the 85km Buffini (a technical workout of note) down to the 7km Turtle, which is a superb introduction to gentle bushveld riding.
