CT Cycle Tour Joins Gran Fondo World Series in 2026
The move opens the door for local and international riders to qualify for the World Championships in Japan.
The Cape Town Cycle Tour is stepping onto a bigger global stage in 2026 – officially joining the UCI Gran Fondo World Series. The move aligns Africa’s most iconic mass-participation ride with more than 35 major Gran Fondo events worldwide, and gives participants the chance to qualify for the 2026 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Niseko, Japan, taking place from 26-30 August.
“This international recognition will only strengthen our reputation as a world-class sporting destination.” – Western Cape Premier Alan Winde
For an event already known for drawing thousands of riders each year, the Gran Fondo recognition marks a significant milestone.
It places the Cycle Tour among a select group of international races that combine mass participation with world-class competitive opportunities.

New Partnership
The Cycle Tour’s step into the Gran Fondo arena comes with the support of Golazo – an international sports agency with deep experience in staging major events across Europe and Africa. Their involvement will help broaden the event’s reach and attract even more international participants.
Golazo has produced hundreds of large-scale sporting events, including the UCI Road World Championships (2021), the African Cycling Championships (2024), and the Diamond League athletics meeting in Brussels. Their work in mass-participation cycling – from the UCI Gran Fondo Series to the UCI World Gravel Series – makes them an ideal partner for elevating the Cycle Tour’s global standing.

While 2026 brings new international status, the heart of the event remains unchanged. “The Cape Town Cycle Tour is more than just a timed race; it’s a celebration of health, community, and the joy of cycling – all on fully closed roads,” says David Bellairs, CEO of the Cape Town Cycle Tour. “Every year we see new riders join, seasoned cyclists return, and international visitors marvel at the route’s beauty. 2026 will be no different; it promises to be another unforgettable edition.”
